Adey Nyamathi, Founding Dean of the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing

Welcome to the Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing at the University of California, Irvine. I am honored to assume the Founding Deanship of this prestigious School of Nursing comprised of an illustrious group of faculty, students and alumni.

Emboldened by community support to address critical healthcare issues, we are poised to build this program into a top-ranked nursing school. The effort is anchored in stellar educational programs, combined with a unique emphasis on inter-professionalism, strong collaborations in teaching and research, and global expansion.

UCI’s School of Nursing began with a bachelor of science degree in 2007. Today, more than 200 highly-qualified students are enrolled in the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctorate programs. They find inspiration in our inter-professional model of compassionate and community-based care. They grow professionally through the clinical training supported by our community and academic partners.

I was drawn to nursing by an innate curiosity and a passion for delivering compassionate care. It wasn’t long before the life stories of disadvantaged individuals and families, their complex health challenges, and struggles accessing care inspired me to focus my energies. Whether you are pursuing a nursing education, career or collaboration at UCI, this is where passions to enhance the health of our communities are nurtured.

At the Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing at UC Irvine, faculty and students are united by our core commitment to community health. We educate nursing professionals uniquely poised to meet the public’s healthcare needs over the next several decades. We look forward to serving you.

Cordially Yours,

Adey Nyamathi, PhD, ANP, FAAN
