The Program in Nursing Science at the University of California, Irvine is pleased to present "Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation", Featuring PATRICIA BENNER, R.N., PH.D.

Dr. Benner is a Senior Scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching and Professor Emerita at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing.

On September 23, 2009 the Program in Nursing Science held its third annual White Coat Ceremony, an event to honor the incoming undergraduate Nursing Science class of 2011 and the inaugural class of graduate MSN students. Students received white laboratory coats after being honored by UCI faculty. The Mary Hannacker Scholarship Award and the Elizabeth C. Tierney Nursing Scholarship were presented to two undergraduate students and six graduate students received Helen Russell Scholarship Awards and have been designated as Helen Russell Scholars.

On June 14, 2009 the Program in Nursing Science held its Inaugural Pinning Ceremony recognizing the first graduating class of nursing students. The event was held at the UC Irvine Student Center culminating with the traditional pinning, an important rite-of-passage into the profession of nursing. Dressed in their white coats, the 36 graduates were presented a custom designed UCI pin by program director Ellen Olshansky and associate director Ellen Lewis, and congratulated by Nursing Science Faculty. The Program in Nursing Science would like to congratulate Mary Knudtson, DNSc, NP on her appointment as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Mary was inducted on November 8, 2008 during their annual meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona for her outstanding achievements as a leader in the nursing profession. She is currently a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and Director of the FNP Program. We are extremely proud of Mary's accomplishments and are delighted she is recognized amongst fellow health care leaders within the nursing field.

The Program in Nursing Science would like to congratulate students Sean Sampson and Mike Huynh for receiving the Kaiser Permanente Deloras Jones Nursing Scholarship Award.

A Welcome Breakfast for Nursing Science Students was held on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the Bren Events Center. The Chancellor presented the inaugural class of students with pins and certificates.
