Susanne Phillips Appointed Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs

Susanne PhillipsSusanne Phillips, DNP, was appointed associate dean of clinical affairs for the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing effective March 1, 2017. In this newly created role, Phillips will oversee and direct all clinical services offered through the school of nursing,  faculty practice, clinical placements and clinical instructors.  She will also be an advisor to Dean Adey Nyamathi, PhD, on all matters concerning clinical affairs. 

As a member of the school’s leadership team, Phillips’ first order of business will be to assist in the development of strategic goals to establish key clinical initiatives and will provide guidance for student clinical education.  

“Susanne has demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities that are of tremendous value to our organization. As we embrace our recently designated ‘school’ status and expand at an accelerated pace, her expertise will be invaluable,” said Nyamathi. 

Phillips, a clinical professor at UC Irvine since 1998, serves in the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing and the Department of Family Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine as an advanced practice registered nurse and board-certified family nurse practitioner.  During her tenure, she has held a variety of faculty and professional leadership roles, including chair of the UC Irvine Nurse Practitioner Faculty Practice and gubernatorial appointment to the California Board of Registered Nursing.  Most recently she served as the assistant director of clinical affairs and the family nurse practitioner concentration coordinator in the MS program. 

Phillips received her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nursing from California State University, Long Beach, and completed her doctoral studies at Yale School of Nursing with an emphasis in health policy. She holds an FNP-BC certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
