ANNOUNCEMENT: PhD Program Application Deadline Extended To June 1st, 2013

UC Irvine Nursing Science Program is pleased to announce an extension to our application deadline for the PhD Program. This new deadline will be June 1st, 2013. In addition to this deadline extension, we are now accepting applicants with a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Nursing. Please refer to our Doctor of Philosophy page for admissions criteria and application information.



NPHF Nursing Research Award Recipient Yangling Song, February 26, 2013



Nurse Practitioner student Yanling Song receives award for nursing research NP student Yanling Song was selected to receive a Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation/Purdue Pharma L.P. Pain Management Award for 2012-2013. This award will provide support for her project entitled “From Prescription Pads to Medicine Cabinets: Serotonin Toxicity and Palliative Care Pain Management.” The award program was initiated to recognize the importance of nursing leadership to promote pain management. Song’s project and commitment to advancing health care are testimony to the role that advanced practice nurses can and will play in shaping the health care system of the future. Congratulations Yanling!


SAVE THE DATE: Nursing Science Translational Research Seminar Series, January 30th, 2013

Pamerla H. Mitchell, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN

Professor of Nursing, University of Washington

"Thinking in Circles: Interdisciplinary Clinical and Translational Research"

Dr. Mitchell will focus on the cyclical nature of translational research from idea to impact on people’s health. She will emphasize the varying perspectives of clinical and translational investigators from multiple professions and disciplines and how they come together in developing team science. Dr. Mitchell will illustrate with examples from her own team’s work in recovery from brain injury and the University of Washington’s Institute for Translational Health Sciences.

UC IRVINE PROGRAM IN NURSING SCIENCE LAUNCHES A NEW PHD IN NURSING SCIENCE IN FALL 2013 APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED BEGINNING FALL 2012

I am extremely pleased to announce that a new program of graduate study leading to a PhD in Nursing Science has been officially established within the UC Irvine Program in Nursing Science. The graduates of this PhD degree program will be equipped to be nurse scholars and researchers in university schools of nursing as well as nurse scientists in research institutions.

The PhD degree program will be focused on research in four major areas:
1. Health Disparities
2. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
3. Disease and Symptom Management
4. Health Services and Health Policy

Individual students will be matched with individual UC Irvine Nursing Science Faculty, based on research interests. The first two years will consist of core course work (philosophy, theory, research design and methods) and individual cognates selected by the student in consultation with the faculty advisor.

Specific information regarding the application process and admission requirements for the PhD degree program will be available in September 2012.
